Look Here!

So, it seems that most simmers have a nice index page that helps you find everything you’re looking for. Not that I assume I have any readers.

Well, I don’t have much going on here, but I may as well organise what I have. Most of this stuff is a placeholder for later updates.

The Hunger Games: Part 2

Welcome back to the Hunger Games.

I’m still feeling this out as I go, and it’s hard to come up with challenges, so there’s a bit of trial and error in this.

Last time, Harry died before the games even started. Hermione died in the run with scissors challenge and I killed Peeta with fire, because the asshat was flatly refusing to do any of the challenges. Unfortunately, this vengeful fire backfired and I managed to kill everyone but Bella and Edward. Thankfully, I got Felicity, house mascot, to call death and get back the people who died by mistake.

I also used maxMotives while everyone was on fire in an attempt to give a few more minutes to extinguish. It did not work, but consequently, everyone’s needs are bright green, although several are a little mentally distressed after the all the fiery death.

The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games: Part 1

Welcome to the Hunger Games.

I’ve been watching a series on YouTube by KPopp called The Hunger Games (Sims 3)

Instead of a fight to the death, this series is more like Big Brother, only with death being an option in the challenges.

I’ve enjoyed watching and decided I’d give it a shot in Sims 2. I’m sort of learning as I go, and I’m trying to come up with interesting challenges, rather than just locking sims in a room and watching them die.

The idea of this is to do a challenge a day, and the winner of the challenge gets to live in the reward house, which has a kitchen, plenty of food, lovely soft furniture, good beds, a TV, hot tub, etc. The loser either may die (if that’s how the challenge plays out), or they get a punishment. KPopp asks watchers to suggest punishments and rewards, so if anyone has any ideas for challenges, punishments and rewards, feel free to comment with them.

Epic Fail

Well, I did a daft thing.

Yesterday I was searching for V4 writing poses (for Daz), basically, I wanted a nice pose of V4 sitting down, writing in a notebook. I could not find anything by web searching, so I thought I’d image search and work backwards. I found a pose that was close enough, and tried to visit the page it was on.

On doing this, an .exe file offered to install itself on my computer. I said to myself, “Self, that is clearly a virus. Hit no, and get off of this site post-haste!”

Unfortunately, my fingers were on red alert, and got a bit too hyperactive. We hit Yes instead of No, and what unleashed on my computer was the most hellish virus I’ve ever encountered.

Adware everywhere. Constant screen hijacks. Error messages, telling me to call the Microsoft helpline (I wonder if people do that?). And, probably the most amusing part of it all, a fake blue screen of death. It actually generated a webpage that looked like a blue screen of death. It also blocked my internet, making it impossible for me to even get on sites like google. On the Windows menu, instead of Shut Down, Restart, Sleep, etc, there was only one option “Install further software”. It was such an intrusive and comprehensive fuck up of my computer I went so far as to tape cardboard over my webcam, that’s how freaked out I got.

It was at this point I had to think of the greater good. There was no getting out of this, so I did a system restore. Oh, and I may have moaned about Windows 10 before, but massive kudos to them for figuring out a way reset all the apps/programmes to factory settings and leave all documents on there.

So now I have to go through the painful process of re-installing all the Sims games. And Sims 2 was a particular bastard to install. And no, the complete collection is not available in the UK. I have to go disc by disc by disc. (4 discs for the original programme, 2 discs for each EP, and 1 disc for each SP.)

I did back up my Sims 2 neighbourhood, but not my Sims 3 one. I couldn’t remember how, and was too freaked out to look it up on my phone. But! On poking around in My Documents, it looks like all of the My Documents parts of Sims 2 and 3 are still there, so we may have a seamless transition (provided I can get TS2 installed again).

Annoyingly, I did lose all of my Paint Shop Pro stuff, which is a bit depressing. Years of collecting nice brushes and textures and things like that. Still, could be worse. I could have lost everything due to a misclick.

TL;DR: I’m an idiot.

Download: Default Replacement Terrain (TS2)

I come bearing a small gift. I've spent hours and simoleons making my terrain pretty on each lot, so eventually I downloaded a greener grass replacement, and used my favourite terrain on it.

The terrain has been in my downloads folder since the dawn of time. It came with a lot from the exchange, which I only ever used in the first few months of TS2 before I found other downloads site. The terrain is simply called "BA_MallowMeadow", I've tried googling it, but I have no idea who created the original texture. Whoever you are, thank you. Yours is the only terrain that has ever made it through every single clear out my downloads folder has endured since 2004. Your terrain basically won the Hunger Games every year for twelve years. Congrats.

Then I simply replaced the textures on the Greener Grass Replacement by mzcynnamon.

*serious voice*

Previously on The Moxleys

Sorin was on a quest to impart all of Mr Moo Cow’s knowledge to his kids.

Brie did absolutely nothing of interest, except idly wish for a vacation home.

Trish got skinny while eating bacon, much to the dismay of her siblings, who got chubby.

Stardust’s arm got stuck in a weird pose and I made fun of her.

Heath followed Trish around a lot.

Sorin started to go into a tailspin about how much he wanted a family, and it was probably Brie’s fault. If he hadn’t married her and had three kids with her, he might have had a chance at marriage and kids. Yeah. Nobody else could follow his logic either.

carlamlee demanded Trish be heir. Which was unfortunate, because in the previous post, she demanded that Stardust be heir, and I picked Stardust and had already played this session.

Yes, Stardust is heir. I was torn between Trish, who’s a Brie clone, and Stardust, who’s a Nikki clone (sadly, Heath was never in the running, because I gave him the same hair as Tyson by mistake and accidentally associated him with his boring uncle). Eventually, Stardust got the win for a) being an alien; and b) Carla told me to.

As per usual, the kids descended into pointless whimsy at the end of their teen years, so I shipped ‘em off to uni before they could make me kill them. I thought this would be better for everyone’s mental health…

I was wrong.

The Vortekz Legacy: Gen 1.1

The Vortekz Legacy

The Vortekz Legacy: Gen 1.1

Welcome to my new TS3 ISBI legacy. Now that I can get it to run on my computer, I’m going to alternate between TS3 and TS2.

What’s with the surname? Well, I’m not being l33t, it’s in the same theme as the Moxleys. Wrestling. I borrowed Scotty Vortekz’s surname. Let’s hope he doesn’t mind. Wrestlers have the best surnames. I’m saving the wrestling first names for the Moxleys, so my first torchholder has a first name that begins with A, her kids will have B names, etc. And yes, I’m going to recycle Ava, because it’s such a pretty name.

I have all the EPs except Late Night and Island Paradise, and no stuff packs. I’ve barely played TS3 at all, so everything is new and exciting to me, and I will squee long and hard about it. So if you’re a jaded veteran of TS3, my silly exclamations may not be what you’re looking for.

My lifespan lengths are:

  • Baby: 2 days

  • Toddler: 2 days

  • Child: 7 days

  • Teen: 12 days

  • YA: 21 days

  • Adult: 21 days

  • Elder: 7 days

My torch holder is called Ava, she’s a dramatic, eccentric, irresistible kleptomaniac who loves cats. Her LTW is to reach the top of the criminal career. I considered the other theft one, but remembered that I don’t know how to play this game, we’re gen 1 and broke, and we need to find a spouse, so maybe leave the harder LTWs for later, once I’ve got the hang of it.

Warnings: Swearing, CAPSLOCK OF RAGE (AND OTHER EMOTIONS), incoherrent rambling, and annoying references to wrestling.

The Moxley Legacy: Gen 2.5

What happened last time, then?

Generation 1: 1.1 | 1.2

Generation 2: 2.1 | 2.2 | 2.3 | 2.4

tl;dr - Stuff. Brie is now the torcholder because I blew up Nikki’s lot in a stupid mistake. I hate Brie’s husband, Sorin, who is creepily obsessed with her. They have three kids, Trish (a goth), Stardust (a cute shy alien), and Heath (a clone of Tyson, right down to his hair).

To be honest, nothing much really happened, except we established I’m the dumbest thing that ever lived when I borked Nikki’s lot.

Also, this update is from my old computer. I didn’t want to say anything, but when I swapped over, I mislaid my to-do folder containing all of the pictures from here to generation 4.1 (I think, or at least the conception of 4.1). I remembered making a point to copy it on to my external drive, I just couldn’t fathom where my (admittedly quirky) filing system had felt it best to copy it to.

As it turned out, I’d copied it to a perfectly logical place (a folder called “unfinished” above where my completed entries live), but because it was such a logical thing to do, it never occurred to me to check there.

I remember having a computer with a 500MB hard drive, and if I wanted to rip a movie for fanvidding, I would have to copy everything to a bunch of CDs, delete it, and put it back after I'd ripped the ISO file. Life was simpler back then (well, maybe not simpler, but smaller). Now if I lose something, it could be anywhere on three external drives which total 5TB.

Anyway, I found my images, and here we go with the update.

Quick Update and a funny

So, quick update:

My old computer died and it was very sad, because it had been a hard worker. However, it only died in a small way — the modem died, so I couldn’t get online. However, the poor thing was about eight years old, so I decided it was time the computer retired. With it being such a small death (and wow, do I love this computer or what for not exploading or destroying my files, as previous computer deaths have done), and I was able to back up everything on it, and put it on the new replacement computer.

TS2 took ages to install, because it was a complete nightmare, it kept asking for disc 4 of the base game, which caused it to crash. Windows 10 is not TS2’s friend. (Pro Tip: the way around this is to install the base game, download the update, install that, and then install the rest of the games. It will stop it from asking for the base game final disc.)

I managed to install the Moxleys’ neighbourhood and we seem to be a go there (although the shadows are solid black rectangles under everything at the moment). However, I haven’t had time to do much more than test.

Also, gloaty moment: a vanilla install of every TS2 EP and SP loads in 58 seconds. And with 10gb of custom content, it loads in 2 minutes. And given that I was delighted when I got it down to 15 minutes from 45 on my old computer, my tiny brain can hardly comprehend how quickly everything goes.

With that in mind, I thought, right, let’s load TS3. Now, the reason I’ve never particularly fallen for TS3 is because on my old computer it took ages to load everything. My computer was a hard worker, but it had limitations, and with TS3, my poor little sim would be surrounded by white blocks for ages while each texture loaded. Naturally, this made doing a legacy pretty much impossible, because who wants to see a sim doing anything surrounded by solid white blobs?

It runs like a dream on my new computer. It’s so sleek and quick, and I quickly fell in love with all of the things I liked about it before, without most of the problems I faced before (though I’m still not a fan of the pudding faces). I love the gardening, and the fact that one of my sims routinely chows down on raw garlic, which leaves her both full of food and amused that she has garlic breath. I love create a style. I love the dramatic trait. And I LOVE-LOVE-LOVE the horses. By far, this was the best selling point of the whole series for me.

And so, without further ado, I present my sim, learning to ride her new horse up a slight incline:

ARTAX! STUPID HORSE! You’ve gotta move or you’ll die! Move, please! I won’t give up! Don’t quit! Artax! Please!
ARTAX! STUPID HORSE! You’ve gotta move or you’ll die! Move, please! I won’t give up! Don’t quit! Artax! Please!

The Moxley Legacy: Gen 2.4

The Moxley Legacy

The Moxley Legacy: Gen 2.4

So, last update I did something so magnificently stupid that someone ought to give me a medal.

Even worse? After playing this game for twelve years, I didn’t know it was stupid.

Here is the stupid thing I did.

The Moxley Legacy

For the love of all that is holy DO NOT GIFT GRAVE STONES.

I have managed to destroy my legacy, for the sake of a quick joke. I am ridiculously stupid.

Since that update, I haven’t managed to get into Nikki’s lot for longer than a minute before it crashes my game. At first, I didn’t even know what was wrong, so I cleared out my downloads – which, to be fair, I should’ve done ages ago. Quick pro-tip? Use this wonderful, awesome and magical tutorial.

Eventually, after a bit of googling, it suddenly occurred to me that gravestones are odd little blighters, and Maxis gave us free rein to do what we want to them, despite the face it will bork games. And that’s when I found out that gifting tombstones is fatal to the lot.

So, since I didn’t want to start a new legacy, I moved over to Brie’s lot. Which crashed, because she had the gravestone too. I managed to reload, then the first thing I did was send the tombstone to a custom community lot, then reloaded, and Brie’s lot now works.

Only problem, I’d played Brie a bit so she and Sorin are married and have two kids already, so we missed the toddler stage.
